Rockwell currently operates the Holpan and Klipdam mines north of Kimberley, and the Saxendift mine on the Middle Orange River ("MOR") southwest of Kimberley. The Wouterspan mine, also located on the MOR, is currently on care and maintenance. All of these operations are located in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.[6]
Rockwell Diamonds Inc was in news in 2009 when Switzerland based Pala Investments Holdings Limited made takeover bid on the company which was resisted by the minority directors of the company.[1][2][3]
In May 2010 Financial Times reported again that Rockwell Diamonds is a potential target for takeover.[7]
Rockwell Diamonds is an established diamond producer. As per the company sources unlike many other diamond mining companies, it has no exploration risk.
Further, Rockwell production is said to be high value gem diamonds from alluvial mining operations. 70% of Rockwell production is +2 carats per stone +2 carat stones represent 7% of annual world production, but 45% of value.
